1. Portafilter: The handle that holds the ground coffee. It’s typically made of metal and is fitted with a metal filter basket where the coffee grounds are placed.

2. Group Head: The part of the machine where the portafilter is attached. It’s the mechanism through which hot water is forced into the portafilter during the brewing process.

3. Boiler: Heats the water to the optimal brewing temperature. Some machines have a single boiler, while others may have separate ones for brewing and steaming milk.

4. Steam Wand: A metal tube used for frothing milk to create textured foam for drinks like lattes or cappuccinos.

5. Pressure Gauge: Monitors the pressure inside the machine. Ideal espresso brewing typically occurs at 9 bars of pressure.

6. Pump: The device responsible for pushing hot water through the coffee grounds at the right pressure. Some espresso machines use a manual lever, while others have automatic or semi-automatic pumps.

7. Drip Tray: Collects any excess water or coffee spills during the brewing process.

8. Water Tank: A reservoir where the water is stored before being heated.

Types of Espresso Machines:

• Manual: Requires the user to control all aspects of brewing, including pressure and water flow.
• Semi-Automatic: Allows some control, typically letting the user manage the shot timing while the machine handles pressure and water temperature.
• Automatic: Fully automated, controlling every part of the brewing process for consistency.
• Super-Automatic: Offers a complete, all-in-one solution for brewing espresso, including grinding, tamping, and brewing with the push of a button.
